Kids will be kids, right? That's what people say when a child, pre-teen or even teenager does something they probably shouldn't have done but it's all part of growing up. This usually comes with staying out past curfew, writing on a wall with crayon or watching TikTok when mom and dad said no.

It's no longer harmless when a teenager escapes their private school, stealing a car and damaging, not 1 but, 2 New York State police vehicles. Here's what happened this week in the Adirondacks.

On Sunday September 18th, according to the New York State Police out of Ray Brook, 2 teenagers ran away from Mountain Lake Academy in Lake Placid, stole a black 2013 Hyundai Elantra and took it for a ride. At this point the 13-year-old and 14-year-old had broken at least 2 laws but that's not all.

On Monday September 19th, New York State Police responded to a call that a vehicle had been stolen in Wilmington, NY, about 15 minutes from Mountain Lake Academy.  Once police spotted the stolen vehicle the pursuit was on and ended up including Border Patrol as well as New York State Troopers.

The details in the report don't explain exactly what happened to bring the pursuit to a close, however police did say that it ended with damage to a Border Patrol vehicle as well as a New York State Police Vehicle.

The 2 male teenagers were arrested and charged with:

  • 2 counts of Criminal Mischief
  • 1 count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property
  • The 2 individuals will appear in Family Court on a date to be determined.

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
