Upstate New York College Student Shot & Killed In Tampa

A 19th birthday celebration. A late night mistake of getting into the wrong car. Now, the parents of a young upstate New York college student are trying to put together the pieces after their child was shot and killed early on Saturday morning.

According to Olivia Land of nypost.com, Carson Senfield, a 2021 Orchard Park High School graduate was out with friends having just celebrated his 19th birthday.“We spoke with him two days before, he was celebrating his birthday with friends on Friday evening,” heartbroken father Darren Senfield told Buffalo’s Channel 2.

That would be the final heartbreaking time that the Senfields would talk to their son. The the details of the night, as reported by Land and WFLA, come from the Tampa Police Department. The police say that Carson Senfield was hanging out with his friends before calling an Uber back to his home at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday morning. This is where the sophomore's night took a nightmarish turn for the worse.

Senfield apparently exited his Uber and attempted to enter another vehicle with a man sitting in the driver’s seat. Tampa police say that the man, who is cooperating with law enforcement and has not been identified, then shot Senfield. The young man was pronounced dead at the scene. One can only assume that the man thought that the western New Yorker was trying to rob him or hurt him. This just seems like a terrible situation all around.

The University of Tampa put out a statement on Saturday afternoon Senfield’s passing in a statement on Saturday afternoon. “The UT administration is deeply saddened to report that a UT student was killed early this morning near the intersection of W. Arch and N. Munro streets. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the student’s family and friends, as well as all who were affected by this incident.
