Local Baseball Team Taking the Field in Support of Family in Need
The Saratoga Horses are in their second season of existence and this baseball team made up of police officers, firefighters and corrections officers has built every one of its games around a fundraiser to benefit the area which it serves every day.
On May 2, a call went out to multiple fire departments including Malta Ridge Fire Company for a structure fire in Malta. When volunteer firefighters Jeff and Greg Stack arrived on scene, part of the Broadbent family home was engulfed in flames. As the Stack brothers moved through the house, room by room, they noticed an abundance of medical equipment, all of it destroyed in the fire. The house and two cars were a total loss. More devastating than any of that was the loss of a family member.
Glenn and Janet Broadbent lived in their home with ten adopted children, seven of whom had significant disabilities. One of those adopted kids died in the fire that night. Glenn is still in the hospital recovering from life-threatening burns.
In the moments spent searching the house and fighting that fire, Jeff Stack knew that a baseball game would be the best and biggest way he could help. On June 9 at 7 o'clock, the Saratoga Horses will host the Ottawa Fire Department and all proceeds will go to the Broadbent family. Jeff and Greg Stack joined Rodger and Chris in studio this past week and you can hear that segment below:
