It's safe to say a group of eight friends have never spent $800 apiece any better than they did when they took the advice of longtime trainer Keith Desormeaux to pool some money together to "have some fun." Capital Region residents Rob Slack, Tom Smith and Chris Mackrell are all part of Don't Tell My Wife Stables which owns Kentucky Derby entrant My Boy Jack.

In the interview with Slack and Kirk Godby (link below), the story of exactly how this group got into the horse racing game is best explained, but the love of the sport and a friendship with someone well-connected are the base for their story. "Don't tell my wife," is how the ownership group's conference calls would end and so when it came time to name the stable, there was no better fit.

What started as something comical is now very serious. My Boy Jack will be in the starting gate on Saturday at the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby. Check out the interview from Thursday's show:
