Despite how ungodly cold it was this weekend - and the snow that was falling earlier today - it is officially time for baseball!

Pitchers and catchers report this week and with that, several of our local ball players are also heading out to Spring Training in either major or minor league capacities.

One of those stars is La Salle graduate JP Sportman. Sportman, who is a member of the Oakland Athletics organization, is in Florida training and heads to A's camp on February 28th.

Sportman hit .298 last season across 45 games in Rookie Ball and High-A Stockton. He had a great season that was cut short by injuries and multiple stints on the disabled list.

Sportman joined us today to talk about his health heading into 2016, where he'll be playing this year, his friendship with Astros star George Springer and much more.

We are talking to a different Capital Region baseball player each day this week as part of our "Capital Region Spring Training Tour."
