As most of you all know by now, I am a huge fan of international sports, specifically the Olympics.  Sunday morning's epic gold medal game between the United States and Canada was another reminder of that and how powerful sports can be.

The stage was finally set, two bitter rivals of this one sided rivalry owned by Canada in recent years.  But something felt different about this American team.  They were built to beat Canada.  With speed, size, and pure talent to match up with them, the stars were aligning, see what I did there.

Matt Boldy's opening gold was a thing of beauty but then Cale Makar equalized, so just like everybody predicted, Overtime!  Not even two minutes into the sudden death OT, Zach Werenski made a great solo effort to pass the puck to Jack Hughes who shot it bottom right of the net to clinch the first gold medal for the U.S. in 46 years!  I'll always remember where I was and what I was doing.  I was watching with my mom and dad and just completely lost my mind, we all did.  My family and I love the Olympics, and this was the greatest sports moment I have witnessed in my lifetime.

In several ways it was way bigger than just a gold medal hockey game.  For one, 46 years to the date of the Miracle On Ice anniversary is amazing.  The way the team honored the late great Johnny Gaudreau after the game bringing his kids onto the ice and his wife and family being there to support the team he should've been on.  Safe to say Johnny Hockey was watching over this team.

I also think our country needed this given the times we are in and the apparent divide we face every day.  It is a way for us to unite as one and no matter what we believe or what religion we are, we are all Americans as the end of the day and we were all rooting together for a team of 23 guys to win gold for our country.  So thank you to these awesome players.  Team MVP Connor Hellenbuyck in goal was unreal making insane saves, 41 of them in fact.  So much for him not being a big game goalie, he stepped up HUGE in the biggest game of his life.  But everybody contributed just like the 1980 Miracle team, they played as a TEAM.

Too often in today's society people are selfish and teams are too and it limits greatness.  There is no I in team but there is a WE, as they say.  I'm so grateful I got to witness the US win gold and in the dramatic fashion that they did.  Please cherish this moment and always remember it, because I know I will forever!
