N.Y. State Fair’s “Best Kept Secret” Is Back! Have You Tried It?
It's almost time for the 2022 Great New York State Fair! The rides, attractions, food, and incredible free concert lineup have people all across the state making plans for their family trips starting Wednesday the 24th through Monday, September 5th.
Now the Fair has announced the return of what they call the Syracuse tradition's "best kept secret." Designed for maximum convenience and comfort, it's been saving fairgoers time and money since 2002 and it's back to start its second decade.
On Track To See The Fair
If you've been to the Great State Fair in the past, you know the parking situation can be time consuming and will tack on another $5 to your day. Plus, with gas prices what they are, even as they're on the downslide, it's not a particularly cheap prospect to make the drive to Syracuse.
If you don't want to fight traffic, pay tolls, and worry about parking, Amtrak is reopening its special NYF station at the fairgrounds for the twentieth year. The service uses variations on the Empire Service and Maple Leaf lines to drop people a few feet from the front gates.
Amtrak recommends you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to departure. If you book your tickets five days in advance on Amtrak's site, you can use the See New York and Save discount to get 15% off adult fares.
"Our partnership with Amtrak grants New Yorkers a fun opportunity to ride to and from the Great New York State Fair in style, air conditioning, and comfort. The Amtrak service is one of the best kept secrets - or hidden gems - when it comes to transportation to the Fairgrounds" - Interim Fair Director Sean Hennessey
Westbound trains start in NYC at 7:16a, 10:21a, and 1:21p and pass through Albany on their way to the special station. Eastbound trains start from Niagara Falls at 6:21a and 12:07p.
