It's possible that the NFL will eliminate kickoffs someday soon.  This is a wretched idea.  Yes, wretched.

New York Giants co-owner John Mara mentioned that the NFL has had discussions about possibly eliminating kickoffs from the game.  I like the idea of flossing with sandpaper better.  Eliminating kickoffs?  This is an awful idea.  Kickoffs produce a ton of excitement.  Onside kicks are extremely important from a strategic standpoint at the end of many games.

I'm all for making the game safer, but at what cost?  You cannot completely take the physicality out of a physical sport without having the game resemble something completely different.  The league has made kickoffs safer by eliminating wedges and moving the line of scrimmage from the 30-yard line to the 35-yard line.  They doesn't need to take the drastic step of eliminating kickoffs altogether.  Interstate 87 being referred to as "The Northway" in the Capital Region is a much better idea than potentially eliminating kickoffs.
