The year of sports has just started and already we have one of the biggest upsets of the 2017. Two time defending champion and six time overall winner Novak Djokovic was defeated in the second round of this year's Australian Open. Djokovic was upset by the one hundred and seventeenth ranked player in the world Uzbekistan's own Denis Istomin 7-6, (8), 5-7, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4. A seventh Australian Open victory for Djokovic would have set a new mark for the most all time tournament victories. The loss to Istomin in the second round, marks the first defeat that early in a major event for Djokovic since 2008 when he was bumped in the second round of Wimbledon by Marat Safin. Istomin's ranking outside of the top one hundred in the world makes him just the second player to defeat Djokovic in his career with a ranking that high. Djokovic suffered a loss to Juan Del Potro, a 2009 US Open champion, in the opening round of the Rio Olympics games in the summer of 2016. The finals of this year's Australian Open will take place on January 29th.
