This Company Banning Memorial Day & July 4th Parties Across NY??

Firing up the grill, turning up the speakers, and cracking open some beers with friends and family – it’s how many Americans celebrate Memorial Day Weekend and the Fourth of July, but the party might be over for some before it even started.

One company is taking extra measures to shut down these summer parties across New York state, asking neighbors to report those that do with the threat of legal action against anyone that would defy them.

Airbnb has announced an official anti-party policy covering short-term rentals over Memorial Day weekend and Independence Day.

Under the new rules, users without a history of positive reviews trying to book entire home listings for one-night during Memorial Day weekend or two-night reservations over July 4^th would be denied. This includes users new to the service that do not yet have an established rating. Airbnb admits these measures may block some honest bookers, but that their priority is to proven, responsible travelers. Even veteran app users allowed to reserve a space will have to formally swear they will not throw a party if booking a local listing.

Airbnb is calling on property neighbors to police partiers by reporting revelers to their Neighborhood Support Line, either online or via a 24-hour hotline. After receiving a report, the Airbnb Safety team works with law enforcement to shut down the fete and apprehend the responsible individuals.

Airbnb has increasingly targeted partiers and event organizers since 2020, when the company tightened limits on occupancy, age limits, and options for hosts. Property owners had the ability to allow large parties at their rentals in the past, but Airbnb revoked the choice on an executive level and capped maximum occupancy at 16. Anyone younger than 25 cannot rent locally without an established, high user rating. Small parties, such as birthdays and gender reveals, can still be approved on a case-by-case basis.

Airbnb instituted similar policies last year in some popular destinations for Halloween and New Year’s Eve, blocking 126,000 rentals. They openly plan on adding further restrictions in the months to come.
