They say records don't matter in rivalry games. That couldn't been have been more true this weekend, as previously 1-5 RPI swept previously 5-1 Union.

RPI came out and blitzed the reigning national champs on Friday night in Troy, 6-1. Riley Bourbonnais registered a hat trick for his first three collegiate goals and Jason Kasdorf had 24 saves.

And in the Saturday version of the home-and-home, RPI beat Union again, 2-1, in overtime.

Union took an early lead in the first period and really dominated the game statistically. The Dutchmen outshot the Engineers 35-27 and won 40 faceoffs compared to just 13.

However, at 1-1 heading into overtime, RPI's Viktor Liljegren scored just 2:41 into the extra period to give the Engineers the surprising weekend sweep.

RPI has now won three straight games against its crosstown rivals dating back to last year. It was the first weekend sweep of Union for the Engineers since 2003-2004. The Enginners now lead the all-time series 48-33-10.

The wins put RPI at 2-0-0 in ECAC play (3-5-0 overall) while Union is now 0-2-0 in the league and 5-3-0 overall.

The two teams meet one more time this season (Jan. 24th.).
