This is the kind of outing that we've been waiting to see from Maple Hill graduate Jaime Schultz...

The flamethrowing right-hander led the Southern League in strikeouts a season ago at AA and only racked up four Ks on Thursday. More importantly, he only had one walk on his resume from the start. Both of those numbers are welcome signs because Schultz high strikeout and high walk rate often cause him to throw a high number of pitches and prohibit him from going deep into games. It was a good adjustment for Schultz to pitch to contact.

It was also good to see Schultz go six innings. He went just 4.1 in his first start at AAA, due to 80 pitches being thrown. He has a 1.74 ERA now in two starts.

As I've said all along, I believe Schultz will be in the Major Leagues in 2017, but he could earn a call-up this year if he continues to throw like this.
