County Waste has partnered with us to honor those in our communities who are truly making a difference.

All throughout 2016, we will be recognizing one “hero” per month based on their inspirational feats, work helping their neighbors, and everyday passion.

This month we honor Mitchell Lake, an Air Force Sergeant from Selkirk, NY.

Not only is Mitchell a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force, he is also a flight mechanic, an active member of the Reserves, and a firefighter for the Selkirk Fire Department. Lake is such an integral part of not only his community, but the country as a whole.

Jeremy Benassi, Lake's nominator and friend, says "He's [Mitchell] an excellent description of a friend, a brother, a firefighter, and to me, a hometown hero. To me, the pride he shows for his country and town is contagious."

Learn more about Mitchell Lake through an interview we did with him in the video below, and click here to see how you can nominate a hero next month, when we’re honoring a local nurse.
