As the Shenendehowa boys' basketball team prepares to face Green Tech tonight in the Section II final (7:30 p.m., Times Union Center), they'll do so with a label more prestigious than No. 1 seed:

Nationally ranked.

The undefeated Plainsmen (23-0) now hold the No. 25 spot in the USA Today High School Basketball Rankings. Shen is the reigning state champion after having gone undefeated in state play a season ago. They also won a prestigious holiday tournament in Elmira earlier this season.

Shen is led by senior Kevin Huerter. The Maryland-bound guard scored 26 points in the Plainsmen's semifinal win over CBA (55-38) last Thursday night. But it isn't only the senior doing the damage as Shen will shoot the 3-ball from anywhere - and with anyone.

During the finals tonight, be looking for junior Luke Hicks, senior Petar Bebic, and sophomore Jake Dzikas on the perimeter. But the Plainsmen don't ignore the low post, either. Junior Mike Pizziketti is second on the team in scoring behind Huerter.
