Christian Brothers Academy in Albany won its second consecutive Section 2 Class AA football title in November. The Brothers reached the state semifinals but were defeated by Newburgh Free Academy 25-20. Rumblings of recruiting violations usually surround successful programs. Some of it is sour grapes. Some of it is legitimate.

High school football fans are getting ready for a weekend of excitement, thanks to the Section II semi-finals getting underway on Friday and Saturday. The championships will be next Friday and Saturday at predetermined locations. 15 cross-over games have been scheduled, as well. Those dates and times will be determined later this week.

It was definitely fall football last night with temperatures at some fields in Section 2 dipping into the 40's as the sun fell on Friday evening. 24 teams suited up for 12 games in the Capital Region. There were a number a blowouts, some excitingly close games and some upsets. Something for everyone.

There were 38 teams suiting up in Section 2 for Friday night football this week with some pretty dramatic match-ups for WEEK 2. The biggest game of the evening was #1 CBA visiting #3 Shaker, played in front of a packed house in Latham. There were two big upsets, including one road-team victory in Ravena.

As the first week of school was behind the students and the realities of the fall season began to sink in, fifty-two Section 2 high school football teams were preparing to play! There were 19 Friday night match-ups with another 7 on Saturday. For most programs, it was their first week of game action.

As high school basketball heads into the last weekend of January, coaches, players and fans begin to focus in on who may be in their school's way of a championship. This is the time of year when coaches try to make sure their best players aren't getting too worn down, while winning every game possible. Let's check out the top teams in each division in Section 2.

There are 5 Section II high school football champions playing this Friday and Saturday on their road to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse to play for a New York State Public High School Championship. That was the goal for each of these programs to start the season. They are the only 5 teams left from Section II. So, what do we know about the teams they are facing? We'll start with the A & AA matchups.

With last weekend's sectional championships complete, the New York State Public High School football state quarterfinals field is set. The five Section II champions from last week will all compete. Burnt Hills, Ravena and Greenwich will play on Friday, while CBA and Schuylerville will compete on Saturday. Ten of the top Section II high school football teams in their Classes faced off this weekend for their championships. Surprises are plenty this time of year. Regular season dominators, like undefeated Shaker High School, fell to red hot teams like Shenendehowa in the AA semi-finals. Then there were teams like Ravena that got pounded by Glens Falls 42-0 in the last week of the regular season, only to turn around the next week and see Ravena upset Glens Falls 35-28 in the semis. That's what happens in mid November in high school football. Friday and Saturday teams played for the crowns.
