The North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the Michigan State Spartans 67-55 aboard the USS Carl Vinson in the first ever Carrier Classic.

The Tar Heels got big contributions from John Henson with 12 points, Harrison Barnes with 17 points, and Dexter Strickland with 10 points. For the Spartans, Draymond Green was their leading scorer with 13 points and 18 rebound for the double-double .

While this game was a great clash of college basketball power house teams, this game had much more meaning as this was the first ever game played on an aircraft carrier, the USS Carl Vinson, which began the war in Afghanistan and played a major role in the capture of Osama Bin Laden.

President Obama was also in attendance in this game as he was a part of the over 8,000 service men and women along with members of both schools for this inaugural game aboard an aircraft carrier. Obama also spoke to those at the game and to the troops listening worldwide on the importance of Veterans Day and this basketball game tying into those festivities.
