Perhaps the play the great John Elway will most be remembered for.

As heavy underdogs heading into Super Bowl XXXII, John Elway, in what would end up being his first of back-to-back Super Bowl wins, pulled off one of the most memorable play in not only Denver Bronco franchise history, but NFL history.

The play occurred midway through the 3rd quarter as the Broncos and Packers were both knotted at 17.  Elway had led the team on a drive all the way down to the Packers 12-yard line and facing a 3rd and 6.

Elway was sent in a play from former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan looking to exploit the middle of that Packers defense.  It was a designed pass play that ended up breaking down forcing Elway to think on his feet.  Elway took off after his number one option and future Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe was double covered and his pocket started to collapse.  As Elway got closer to the endzone, the Packers defense recognized the play quickly and converged on Elway.

As the defense closed in on him, Elway leaped into the air before three Packers laid a hit on him, sending him spinning toward the goal line.  Elway landed just short of a touchdown on the dramatic play, but the 37-year old quarterback showed his toughness and desire to win his first Super Bowl landing him at #8 on our countdown.
