Tonight, among the best rivalries in the Capital Region is renewed as RPI and Union hockey go at it in the opening game of the ECAC season.

It's actually a home-and-home weekend series. Tonight's game will be at Union while the Halloween contest will be held at RPI.

We brought in Union hockey player Ryan Scarfo today to preview the matchups and to talk about the Dutchmen.

I asked Scarfo, just a sophomore, what he learned in his freshman year about the rivalry and what it means to the area. I then asked him how he feels about playing the Engineers three times this season - and especially starting off the conference season with RPI.

We talked about the Dutchmen's upset of No. 3 Boston University earlier in the year and I asked him if he felt pressure coming into the program last season and being part of the team that was asked to defend Union's national title.
