What Were The Crowds Like At HVCC On Sunday Afternoon?
What a weekend it was for Section II high school basketball at Hudson Valley Community College. The crowds were amazing all day on Sunday and the McDonough Sports Complex really is an awesome venue to host these games. The fans were passionate and the games were great. It is such an exciting time around here in the Capital Region as so many good teams are left competing. Plus it was a nice change for me to work a Sunday. Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:
If you ever wondered why high school sports gets so much media coverage in the Capital Region just look at Sunday's attendance figures. Over 4,000 fans were at Hudson Valley Community College for the Boys' basketball Class AAA quarterfinals and Girls' Class B Semifinal. Thousands more were watching the Boys' Class AA games at Siena and Union college was packed Sunday night with fans watching the Section II high school Boys' hockey finals. High School sports has always been extremely popular, and Sunday was another perfect example of that.
Now the journey begins for the Cool Insuring Arena for the Sectional championships this upcoming weekend. There are so many good teams on both the boys and girls side including Colonie boys. They are a perfect unbeaten and continue to be the team to beat in class AAA. Bring on some incredible matchups and performances this week and I will be all over it on Big Board Sports both with 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio and WNYT NewsChannel 13.
