It took 11 innings, but the Tri-City ValleyCats earned a hard-fought, 3-2 win in Game 1 of the New York-Penn League semifinals on Wednesday against the Connecticut Tigers.

The eventual game-winning run scored on an Alfredo Gonzalez sacrifice fly in the top half of the 11th.

Playing on the road, the 'Cats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead courtesy of a third inning homer by Derek Fisher and an a Connecticut error in the fourth.

The Tigers got one back in the bottom of the fourth and tied it up in the seventh.

The ValleyCats had a hard time capitalizing on late opportunities to take the lead prior to extra innings. Connecticut made five errors on the night and the 'Cats were 0-11 with runners in scoring position.

Game 2 is tonight at Joe Bruno Stadium. First pitch is 7:05. Tri-City clinches the series with a win.
