Whitley Gets DH Monday at ‘The Joe’

Rains washed away Game 2 of Niskayuna native Garrett Whitley's return to the Capital Region, as the meeting between his Hudson Valley Renegades and the Tri-City ValleyCats was postponed.

Good news for 518 fans though? The two teams will play a doubleheader Monday at 5 p.m. at the Joe.

Whitley, taken No. 13 overall in the MLB Draft in 2015, had two hits in his first game in the Capital Region as a professional on Saturday night.

Despite the rain, Whitley caught up with a large contingent of Capital Region fans that made the trip to see him on Sunday.

The ValleyCats have dealt with multiple homecomings from Capital Region natives: Jaime Schultz, a Maple Hill grad, also a Rays farmhand came back with the Renegades while La Salle grad JP Sportman made his return with the Vermont Lake Monsters and Colonie grad Brian O'Keefe came back as a member of the State College Spikes.
