On Wednesday morning, the Capital Region got its first look at the Tri-City ValleyCats, when the 'Cats hosted the Albany Dutchmen of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) at Joseph L. Bruno stadium.

The ValleyCats won the game by a score of 6-3 before more than 4,200 fans. The ValleyCats hosted "Education Day" for area-students from 25 different schools.

The New York-Penn League schedule opens up on Friday when the 'Cats, who were the league runner-up a year ago, travel to Connecticut to take on the Connecticut Tigers, affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. The ValleyCats will open up the home portion of their schedule on June 25th when they host the Staten Island Yankees.

Cesar Carrasco led the ValleyCats, going 4-4 for skipper Ed Romero. The ValleyCats roster is incomplete and will continue to fill in as the Houston Astros sign draft picks from last weeks draft.

Most college players selected by Houston will play for Tri-City this year. The Astros selected several players that are still playing/played in the College World Series, delaying their ability to negotiate contracts.
