Wichita State & FGCU Advance In First Four
The first pair of games in the men's NCAA Tournament weren't even close to the term 'nail biters.'
In the first game, Florida Gulf Coast University dominated Fairleigh Dickinson in every statistical category on their way to a 31-point thumping, 96-65. Marc-Eddy Norelia led the Eagles with 20 points and 10 rebounds as he made 10 of 11 shots from the floor.
FGCU has only played 4 games in NCAA Tournament history. FGCU now has the 2nd-highest win percentage (.750) in NCAA Tournament history. Only Duke has won a higher percentage of its games (.755).
FGCU now plays #1 seed North Carolina on Thursday and has a chance to be the first #16 seed team to upset a #1 seed in the first round of the tournament.
In the second game, Wichita State, via a 20-2 second half run, distanced themselves from the Vanderbilt Commodores as they sailed to a 70-50 victory.
Wichita State is 16-13 all-time in 13 NCAA Tournament appearances. The Shockers are in the tournament for the fifth straight year, a school record, and have won at least one game in each of the past four years.
Wichita State will play Arizona Thursday as they look to continue their tournament hopes.
