Capital Region native Ian Anderson takes the mound today as the Atlanta Braves' starting pitcher, when his team takes on the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Wild Card round. Anderson, a former Shenendehowa Plainsmen, was the number three overall pick by Atlanta in the 2016 MLB Draft. The Atlanta Braves pitching staff continued to suffer injuries throughout 2020 and it provided Anderson the opportunity  to make his major league debut earlier than most experts anticipated. In his major league debut this past August, Anderson almost threw a no hitter against the Yankees as he pitched five 1/3 innings in a seven inning and allowed just one hit. Anderson finished his 2020 regular season with a 3-2 record, 1.95 ERA, forty one strikeouts and fourteen walks in thirty two and 1/3 innings of work.

Some media outlets locally in Georgia believe Anderson could be the key factor in how far the Braves can advance in this postseason
