Yankees’ Search for a True Ace Continues
The ace of the Yankees is not Masahiro Tanaka, how could it be? He's given up 26 home runs this season and two of those came in one inning on Saturday. Giving up the long ball continues to be his major downfall. Luis Severino is the ace of the staff but the Yankees could use some help at the trading deadline. But let's face it, the Yankees still need Tanaka to return to old form before the season is out.
Adding a Sonny Gray or Justin Verlander, depending on the package of prospects each would require, will be a good boost to a shaky rotation, but it's hard to argue either is a hands-down, no questions asked ace the way the Yankees hoped Tanaka would be when they signed him to that 7-year, $155 million contract in 2014.
