The New York Mets came into this MLB season with one of the highest payrolls in all of baseball, a mostly brand new roster, and serious playoff aspirations. Now they sit 16 games under .500, and the playoffs seem more like a dream fantasy than an expectation. With the trade deadline just a couple short weeks away, the New York Mets have serious decisions to make about who stays and who goes.

The untouchables

The Mets have already come out and said certain players are not available to other teams. Naturally Juan Soto being one, alongside fellow outfielders AJ Ewing and Carson Benge, as well as young pitchers like Nolan McLean and Christian Scott. This comes as a surprise to no one. These are far and away the most valuable assets the Mets have and will be a critical part of the teams' success in the future.

The unlikely

You'll notice Francisco Lindor was not named by the Mets as someone they are unwilling to part ways with, but I still find it very unlikely. Maybe in the offseason depending on the deals on the table, but where they stand right now I think the Mets would have to be blown away by a deal for Lindor. Same with Bo Bichette, a recent arrival from their latest free agency class. Bichette has certainly turned things around after a slow start to the season, and at only 28 years old he has room to improve. The two both being primary shortstops does make a trade a little more likely, but the Mets have been fine with running Bichette at 3rd so far this season, I don't see why that'd change now.

If anyone is willing to take on Freddy Peralta at this point, the Mets will take whatever they can get. I'd be surprised to see the Mets hold onto their bullpen arms as well in Luke Weaver and Devin Williams, simply because they're having good years, and bullpen talent can be easily replaceable.
