Cremo, Clareth Defeated in Mid-Major Voting

Despite the support of the Capital Region, local freshmen basketball stars Joe Cremo (UAlbany) and Nico Clareth (Siena) were defeated in the Elite 8 of the CCR Mid-Major Freshman of the Year voting.

Both players averaged double-figures as freshmen for their respective teams. They helped lead their teams to the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). Each team fell in the first round. UAlbany lost to Ohio while Siena lost to Morehead State.

They are very different players but both have bright futures in the Capital Region. Cremo is a do-everything, hard-nosed player who just plays the game right. Clareth is flashy and brings energy and is armed with a good outside shot.

It will be fun to see those two go at it for three more years in the Albany Cup, the annual UAlbany-Siena game. The game will be played next year at SEFCU Arena for the first time. I'm sure these two will be two of the best players on the floor.
