Siena men's basketball fans should be extremely excited about Gerry McNamara as their next head coach.  He is a proven winner and won the 2003 national championship with Syracuse under head coach Jim Boeheim and along side Carmelo Anthony.  He absolutely won the press conference on Tuesday afternoon and wants to win right away.  He will have to navigate the transfer portal which I have no doubt that he will succeed in doing that.  He has several good recruiting connections especially in the Syracuse area.  Most importantly, he prioritizes family and is super excited about the recent move to Loudonville New York right here in the Capital Region.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in the Times Union:

If you’re a fan of the Siena men’s basketball program, you must have been impressed watching Gerry McNamara’s introductory press conference on Monday. He won the press conference when he talked about the importance of his family in his new journey and how he remembers playing at Pepsi Arena in 2003 in the NCAA Regionals on his way to winning a National title at Syracuse. And McNamara also talked about the importance of winning games. Music to Siena fans ears.

McNamara will have the Saints competing in the MAAC conference that is for sure.  He will have several great assistant coaches surrounding him and the excitement is quickly building already for the season to begin in November 2024.  He said all of the right things and I expect that he will back it up and prove it in year one.
