Howard Bryant writes for ESPN the Magazine and was asked to sit down with Knicks Superstar Carmelo Anthony. Anthony reached out to the magazine and said he wanted to speak about the modern day athletes responsibility to enact social change.

As a fan I was concerned at first that Melo would be distracted by his new crusade and the Knicks would suffer. It's fine you can judge me for being a fan and focusing on the smaller picture. I realize now after speaking to Bryant that Melo's head is on right and he could inspire real change. I've always said I don't like to mix my sports and politics but it would seem those days are behind us and the two are now intertwined. Whether you agree with Colin Kaepernick or not every athlete has a platform and some will use it.

You can read "The Truth according to Carmelo" in ESPN the Magazine on store shelves October 31st or right now as an insider at ESPN.com.
