The end is near for Brent Steuerwald.  The Shenendehowa High football coach is stepping down after the 2011 season.

The 76-year old made the announcement today at a press conference at the Clifton Park school.

Steuerwald started the Shen football program and is the only varsity coach the school has ever had.

He's the Section II leader in victories - the Shen football field is even named after him.

Steuerwald has 307 wins, 90 losses and 4 ties in a 44-year career at Shenendehowa.  He has led them to 25 league titles and 10 Section II championships.

The 1952 graduate of CBA was elected to the Shenendehowa Hall of Fame in 2009 and last year was part of the Capital Region Football inaugural Hall of Fame Class.

The Plainsmen went 7-3 last year - they lost the Section II Class AA Championship game to Troy.
