The Siena men's basketball team opened up its season last night by beating Division II Indiana University (PA) last night, 82-73.

Freshman Nico Clareth was impressive, scoring 24 points on 9-17 shooting to lead all scorers. Three Saints starters scored in double-figures as well. Brett Bisping and Javion Ogunyemi scored 16 points while Lavon Long had 10.

You may be wondering why it's a good thing to beat a Division II opponent by just nine points, but Indiana University (Pa.) was the national runner-up a season ago.

The negatives for the Saints? They were out-rebounded 38-37 and committed 16 turnovers. On the plus side, they did force 17.

This game was played at the Arc on campus, which is a good way to get student engagement before the start of the regular season. Siena just re-upped its lease with the Times Union Center through 2020.
