RPI Head Coach Seth Appert Previews the ECAC Tournament

 

The 53rd annual ECAC tournament kicks off tomorrow, and rolls on through the next three weekends. RPI, who secured themselves a 7th seed with a solid regular season, will face 10th seeded Dartmouth in the first round as they try to make a deep run.

Earlier on Joe & Brix, RPI Head Coach Seth Appert joined the program to talk about his team and their prospects heading into the weekend. During their conversation, Appert shed some light on his team’s 14-14-6 season, their chances in The Dance, what his team learned for their earlier, highly publicized fight with the Union Flying Dutchmen.

RPI Names New Head Football Coach

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton today announced the appointment of Ralph Isernia as head football coach. A veteran of 22 years in coaching, he brings experience from Division III, Division II and the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), formerly I-AA.

RPI Men’s Hockey Winning Streak Stopped At Six

Senior Greg Miller netted a pair of unassisted goals as the Cornell University men’s hockey team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 4-1, in ECAC Hockey action from Lynah Rink. With the win, the Big Red improve to 10-13-3 (6-10-3 ECACH), while the Engineers, who lose for the first since January 26, drop to 14-12-5 (9-7-3 ECACH).

Union Men’s Hockey Moves Up In National Polls

After a weekend series sweep of Penn State at Messa Rink, Union moved up to No. 7 in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. The Dutchmen remained at No. 8 in the latest USCHO.com poll. Union has appeared in the USCHO.com poll for 72 consecutive weeks since the Dec. 7, 2009 rankings, extending a school record. The Dutchmen have been in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll for 22 consecutive weeks, and in the top 10 of the poll for 16 straight weeks.

Union Men’s Hockey To Start Ranked Fifth In National Poll

The Union College men’s ice hockey team was ranked No. 5 in the first USCHO.com poll released on Monday afternoon. The No. 5 ranking is the highest preseason ranking in the program’s 22 year history at the Division I level. Union has appeared in the USCHO.com poll for 64 consecutive weeks since the Dec. 7, 2009 rankings, extending a school record. The Dutchmen earned 789 points in the poll, and were the highest ranked ECAC Hockey team, above No. 6 Cornell (631 points).

Mat Bodie Named Union Men’s Hockey Captain

Union College men’s ice hockey junior defenseman Mat Bodie will serve as captain for the 2012-13 season, head coach Rick Bennett announced on Monday during the team’s annual media day. Bennett also announced that senior forward Kyle Bodie and senior defenseman Greg Coburn will serve as assistant captains, wearing the "A" throughout the season.

Union Men’s Hockey Picked To Finish First In ECAC

The ECAC Hockey Preseason Coaches’ and Media polls each picked Union College to finish first in the conference, the league announced on Wednesday during its annual preseason media teleconference call. Union which opens up the regular season at home on Oct. 6 against Merrimack at 7:00 p.m., was picked to finish first in both polls for the first time in program history. A year ago, the Dutchmen were selected to finish second in both polls.
