Union Men’s Hockey Picked To Finish First In ECAC

The ECAC Hockey Preseason Coaches’ and Media polls each picked Union College to finish first in the conference, the league announced on Wednesday during its annual preseason media teleconference call. Union which opens up the regular season at home on Oct. 6 against Merrimack at 7:00 p.m., was picked to finish first in both polls for the first time in program history. A year ago, the Dutchmen were selected to finish second in both polls.

RPI Gets Another Interim Head Football Coach

Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton today announced the appointment of Bob Bodor as acting head football coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Bodor has been RPI’s defensive coordinator and is a 24-year veteran football coach, including six as head coach at Colorado College.

Union College has extended the contract of men’s ice hockey coach Rick Bennett through the 2018-19 season. The announcement was made today by Jim McLaughlin, Director of Athletics at Union.

Union Men’s Hockey Finishes Ranked Third In The Nation

The Union College men's ice hockey team remained at No. 3 in both the final USCHO.com and the USA Today and USA Hockey Magazine polls, the highest final ranking in the program's 21-year history at the Division I level. Union's previous high in the final national rankings was No. 12, which the team achieved in the April 11, 2011 editions of both polls. Union earned 871 points in the USCHO.com poll, and 424 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.

Union Men’s Hockey Wins ECAC Monthly Awards

Junior forward Jeremy Welsh, freshman forward Max Novak and sophomore goaltender Troy Grosenick all earned ECAC Hockey monthly honors, the league announced on Friday. Welsh was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Month, Novak earned Rookie of the Month honors, and Grosenick was named Goaltender of the Month for the second time this season.

Union Men’s Hockey Ranked Third In Both National Polls

The Union College men's ice hockey team moved up to No. 3 in both the USCHO.com poll and the USA Today and USA Hockey Magazine poll, the highest ranking in the program's 21-year history at the Division I level. Union earned 864 points in the USCHO.com poll, and 410 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.

Union Wins First-Ever ECAC Men’s Hockey Championship

Daniel Carr scored at 10:26 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie, leading #6/#6 Union College to a 3-1 win over Harvard University (13-10-11) and Union’s first ECAC Hockey Championship at Boardwalk Hall Saturday night. The Dutchmen (24-7-7), two time Cleary Cup Champions for the regular season title, won the tournament title in its second appearance in the Championship Game in three seasons. Union receives the league’s automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Championships.

Union Men’s Hockey Rack Up ECAC Postseason Awards

Head coach Rick Bennett, sophomore goaltender Troy Grosenick and senior forward Kelly Zajac each earned individual awards at the ECAC Hockey Awards Banquet at the Atlantic City Convention Center. Bennett earned the Tim Taylor Coach of the Year Award, while Grosenick earned the Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year of the Award, and Zajac earned Best Defensive Forward honors. Sophomore defenseman Mat Bodie and Grosenick earned ECAC Hockey First Team honors, junior forward Jeremy Welsh earned second team honors, and Zajac earned third team honors. Union also earned the SKOR Sports Trophy for team sportsmanship.

Union College Goaltender Troy Grosenick Named Finalist For National Award

Union College sophomore goaltender Troy Grosenick was named one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, presented annually to the top men's college hockey player, the Hobey Baker Selection Committee announced on Thursday. Grosenick is the first student-athlete in program history to be named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award.
