Time Warner Cable and MSG Reach Agreement
Have you heard about Linsanity? Yeah, well now if you’re a Time Warner Cable customer you’ll be able to watch it as well. The dispute between Time Warner Cable and the MSG Network has been resolved, according to a party near to Time Warner. The despute has left more than 2 million New York State residents without access to New York Knicks and Rangers game since the first of the year.
A Time Warner/MSG Update
Earlier, I reached out to a Time Warner Cable Communications Manager who had joined "Game On" a few weeks ago, asking her for an update on the current MSG blackout situation. She informed me that, unfortunately, Time Warner and MSG seem far away from reaching a deal, as the two parties haven't resumed any negotiations since the January 1st blackout, when Time Warner issued an official press release outlining the stalemate. Time Warner still claims they've offered to increase MSG's current rates by 6.5% to keep the channels on air while negotiations continue, but as of yet the two haven't reopened talks. In case you missed Joe Bianchino's article earlier this week breaking down the situation, you can find TWC's press release below:
NHL Blacking Out Ranger Games
The New York Rangers will finally open the partially renovated Madison Square Garden tonight, but chances are you won't get to see it. Despite the existence of what seems like a substantial Ranger fandom in the Capital Region, Ranger games, including tonight's home opener (according to the Times Union), are routinely blacked out. So unless you're lucky enough to have NHL Center Ice, and the money it costs to buy such a package, you're left watching the Sabres, Islanders, Devils, Long Island High School Football or whatever else makes it to MSG over the Broadway Blue Shirts.
