Funny Cide was one of the greatest horses and thoroughbreds that I ever saw and had the privilege of covering.  It was very sad to hear the news of his passing this weekend and the entire horse racing community will mourn and miss him dearly.  He was so exciting to watch and cover and captivated horse racing audiences for years.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in the Times Union:
It was sad hearing the news that Funny Cide the first New York Bred to win the Kentucky Derby died on Sunday at the age of 23. What a great horse who provided so many long last memories but none bigger than his win in the Kentucky Derby. Owner Jack Knowlton and Sackatoga Stables had quite the ride with Funny Cide. I distinctly remember watching and covering Funny Cide come up just short of winning the Triple Crown at Belmont Park running third in the slop to Empire Maker. Funny Cide was New Bred who did amazing things on the racetrack and will always be remember.

MJ and I were joined by Jack Knowlton the owner of Sackatoga Stables Monday morning right here on Big Board Sports.  I have known Jack forever and he had nothing but nice things to say about Funny Cide.  He gave great perspective and stories about him.  Below is our full interview with him.

On a lighter note, Saratoga has been awesome so far and I can't wait for the rest of the summer as even after 37 years of being in Albany and being up at the Spa, it truly never gets old.  Rest in peace Funny Cide you will be missed.
