The New York Yankees were able to get the sweep of the Texas Rangers yesterday 3-2.  That makes what could have been a disastrous home stand after getting swept 3 games to none by Boston into a 6-4 winning home stand.

Interesting starting pitcher for the Yankees yesterday in Brian Gordon.  Very skeptical on how would do, and he didn't have a bad outing.  He goes 5 and allows the 2 runs, while Texas' CJ Wilson went 8 strong and also gave up 2 runs.

Each team hit the ball fairly well, but couldn't take advantage of runners in scoring position.  It would go 12 innings until Brett Gardner stepped up to the plate and knocked in the winning run for the bombers to pick up the win and the sweep.  Some great momentum heading into some inter-league play between themselves and the Chicago Cubs.

That sweep gives the Yankees a bit of ground on the Boston Red Sox, who beat the Rays again 4-2.  The Sox take their series with Tampa Bay 2-1. So the Yankees are still 1.5 games back of Boston for first place in the AL East.  Boston takes on Milwaukee in inter-league play starting today.  Yankees and Cubs are set to go this afternoon at 2:20pm.  Freddy Garcia gets the start against Chicago's Doug Davis.
