The residents in this section of Schenectady County are finally getting a new grocery store. They have been in need of one for nearly two decades. There were empty stores in the area that are being repurposed into a new, much-needed supermarket.
Where is the New Grocery Store Going?
The new supermarket is being built in Rotterdam at the Five Corners. It is already in the advanced stages of being built. Schenectady County made the announcement last March that they would be taking on two abandoned sites. One was the old CVS Pharmacy and the store next door was Taylor & Vadney Sporting Goods Shop according to the Daily Gazette.
This will sit on the Five Corners in Rotterdam. The Five Corners are made up of where Broadway, Curry Road, Duanesburg Road, Mariaville Road, and Princetown Road meet.
What Grocery Store is Being Built?
An affordable grocery store known for its low prices and no-frills is moving into that space. Aldi grocery store is already well on its way to being built.
Ray Gillen, the chairman of the Metroplex Development Authority said this of the Aldi being built:
The Aldi store being built at the Five Corners in Rotterdam is on schedule for a mid-July opening.
Where are the Other Schenectady County Aldi Locations?
There is an Aldi located at 1592 State Street in the Woodlawn Plaza.
The second location is at 303 Saratoga Road in Glenville.
There was an overwhelming demand for a grocery store that was closer to residents in that 5 Corners section of Rotterdam.
The constriction is moving along and Aldi is scheduled to open in mid-July.
