But the real reason? Albany native Dion Lewis excelled for New England in a performance that could go a long way in his making the roster for the Super Bowl champs.

Lewis, fighting to become the 'Pats "passing back" and replace Shane Vereen, caught five balls for 36 yards. He also had three carries for 12 yards and a touchdown run of 11 yards.

ESPN's Mike Reiss says "His combination of blitz pickup, pass-catching ability, knack for picking up yardage after the catch, and determination in the red zone (11-yard touchdown run) was impressive."

"I thought Dion did a good job with his opportunities," coach Bill Belichick said in his day-after-game conference call via Reiss. "He's had a solid spring and camp for us. He missed a few days there [because of injury], but I thought he ran well [Saturday] night."
