Starbucks and Chipotle are pretty much everywhere, but Popeyes has been expanding quickly in 2022. Clifton Park opened its first Popeyes earlier this year and the chain has plans to expand in the Capital Region, Amsterdam is one of those places.

DiMezza says the town has seen a healthy increase in sales tax revenue from restaurants already in the area, such as Pizza Hut, Moe's, Panera, Subway, Dunkin and Burger King, Jersey Mike's. In late 2020, the area's first Five Guys opened for business in the Mohawk Valley. Local hometown favorites are like Rustic Loft Pub, Amsterdam Diner, Nicolino's and the Raindancer are also part of the vital restaurant and retail industry along Route 30.

Along with the increased business, DiMezza says he expects new housing projects to be on the rise in the coming year as well.

5 Chain Restaurants Missing from the Capital Region

The Capital Region has more than it's fair share of chain restaurants. We have our McDonald's, Ihop, TGI Fridays, Applebees and Taco Bell. In fact there's been a steady increase of chains over the past decade or so with Sonic making its debut, a Chick-fil-A at the Albany International Airport, and the recently announced expansion of Popeyes.

If you need proof, just take a quick drive down Wolf Road in Colonie. Olive Garden, Cheesecake Factory, Chipotle, the 99 and just about everything else. Yet, there are some nationally popular chains that don't currently have a presence in the area.
