We're less than one month away from the Savanah Bananas' trip to Upstate New York, and a lot of local baseball fans are very excited. The diamond dynamo is bringing its "Banana Ball World Tour" to Cooperstown's Doubleday Field on September 16th, and fans from around the area will be travelling out to see them by the hundreds.

One Capital Region summer regular is not a fan, however, and voiced his lack of interest in the Bananas earlier this week in a now-viral online exchange.

Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy Enters Feud with Savannah Bananas

A story from The New York Post chronicled a recent Twitter feud between the Savannah Bananas, the self-described Harlem Globetrotters of baseball, and Barstool Sports' founder, Dave Portnoy.

Here's the tweet that began it all (language warning here):

One Twitter user responded by saying they might be sick of you too, to which the Bananas sent their own reply. Check this out:

Then, moments later, they responded with the proof that we all desired:

Naturally, Barstool Sports responded with a story of their own, lambasting The Post for writing a story about Dave Portnoy. Now, I'm writing this story about Barstool writing a story about The Post.

Look, this is nothing more than some harmless online bickering, and that's the best part about it. The Bananas are a polarizing group; some fans love their creativity and inventive spirit, while other, more traditional fans believe it's ruining America's national pastime.

Most of us, however, sit somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. We marvel at the spectacle, and laugh at the viral videos that get posted online after their games. That said, we also recognize that "Banana Ball" likely won't replace the traditional style of baseball anytime soon, and that's probably for the best.

Then, there's Dave Portnoy, who over the last decade-plus, has re-defined what the term polarizing means within media circles. He's been busy this summer, however, as he's done pizza reviews for ten Capital Region pizzerias during the 2023 meet at Saratoga Race Course.
