USA Today's readers are in the process of naming the best 5k races in the country, and two staples of the Upstate New York running scene are in contention.

As listed on the USA Today Readers' Choice 10Best webpage, Poughkeepsie's Alpha Wins 5K, and Corning's Wineglass 5K, are considered two of the best 5k races in the United States.

Here's a look at the area where Poughkeepsie's race takes place:

Here is the description of the Alpha Wins 5K on the official race webpage: cross the bridge, turn around and come back across. Beautiful views and FLAT! The perfect course for your next PR and fun for all ages.

Five races are run each year as part of the Alpha Wins series: one mile, 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon. All races take you over the picturesque Walkway Over the Hudson.

The Williams Toyota Wineglass 5K, which happens during Wineglass Weekend, takes runners on a flat, out-and-back course that starts and finishes near War Memorial Stadium at Corning Painted-Post High School.

As noted by the official race webpage, it's the second race (of three) for those participating in either the Riesling or Pinot Challenge.

Here's a look at the area where Corning's race takes place:

As of March 7th at 10AM, the Alpha Runs 5K is 4th in voting, while the Wineglass 5K is 7th. If these results hold, then both Upstate New York representatives will be included among the 10 best 5k races in the nation.

Voting for this list will conclude on March 25th at noon. Results will be shared with the public on April 3rd!
