Buffalo Bills’ Star WR Involved in Controversy with ESPN Personality
The state of the relationship between Stefon Diggs and the Buffalo Bills was one of the most perplexing stories from the 2023 NFL offseason.
During the Bills' loss to the Bengals in the AFC Divisional Roundlast season, Diggs and QB Josh Allen were seen in a heated exchange on Buffalo's sideline. Diggs then left the stadium in a hurry, and was not heard for a while after that. He was then reportedly absent from the beginning of his team's offseason workouts, but was later spotted on the field, and after that miscommunication, the situation seemed to die down.
Now, another wrinkle has been added to this entire debacle, thanks to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, and his sources.
Stephen A. Smith Asserts Stefon Diggs 'Wants Out'; Star WR Responds
A story from USA Today's Bills Wire and other sources documented the controversy brewing between Stefon Diggs, star wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills, and well-known ESPN personality, Stephen A. Smith.
Here's the quote that started it all, courtesy of ESPN's First Take:
Diggs responded to the comments made by Smith in a string of tweets sent on Monday afternoon:
I appreciate how vehemently Diggs denied these rumors. It's one thing to be involved in rumors during the offseason, when the stakes are at their lowest. It's quite another, however, to have these rumors circulate around the team as they prepare for a very important season in 2023.
If the rumors festered longer, they would undoubtedly become a distraction, and for that reason, I commend Diggs for taking matters into his own hands on Twitter.
That all being said, it is my belief (and no, I do not have any sources) that there is some level of truth to every one of these rumors about his dissatisfaction. For me, it's a simple numbers game; you can only be mentioned in rumors for so long, and from so many well-respected people in football and the media, before something has to be true.
I'm not saying that Diggs will be traded tomorrow, nor do I believe that any of this will impact his play on the field in 2023. All I'm saying is that, if the Bills fail to live up to lofty expectations again in 2023, the rumblings of Diggs' displeasure with Buffalo will likely increase.
That said, if the Buffalo Bills somehow fail in 2023, Stefon Diggs' future may be the least of their problems.
