With the sports media and news media all still caught up in the Jason Collins " I am gay" revelation ( amazing how they are all still stammering while the rest of us have moved on) history of another kind is getting little play but could be HUGE news.

Kevin Krigger is a Black Jockey, the 1st Black Jockey to win the Santa Anita Derby in fact aboard Goldencents. Krigger will be riding the same horse in the Derby this Saturday at Churchill Downs.

Perhaps you have heard of Goldencents? If so probably more  because of it's famous part owner, this guy who led Louisville to a basketball national title. Oh yeah Pitino. Rick Pitino. The horse is trained by Doug O'Neil, the same trainer for last year's Derby winner I'll Have Another.

The last time a horse won the Kentucky Derby with a Black Jockey is 1902. Isaac Murphy won 3 Kentucky Derby's. That was before segregation took hold.

Krigger says he grew up around horses as a kid in St. Croix, in the Virgin Islands. Krigger is now 29 years old. This Saturday he hopes to put his name in the record books and brake a 111 year old drought. Will the lucky streak of Pitino continue? The National Championship. His son Richard gets the Minnesota job. He gets elected to the basketball hall Of Fame. Can he now win a Kentucky Derby?

History waits to see if Krigger and Pitino and O'Neil can make Horse Racing History and Sport History
