Movie Icon Cheers On Son In NCAA Tourney In Albany

Downtown Albany was buzzing on Friday with the perfect storm of St. Patrick's Day mixed in with round one of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Like any premier sporting event, featuring the best college players in the country, the stars wear out on Pearl Street.

Academy Award nominated actor, Bill Murray excited the sold-out crowd at the MVP Arena on Friday. Amongst the thousands of out of town visitors, the star of "Lost In Translation", "Stripes" and "Caddyshack" was easy to spot.

Murray was perched amidst the UConn basketball family members. Murray's son, Luke is an assistant coach with the Huskies. Luke Murray coached with UConn head coach Dan Hurley at Wagner and at Rhode Island prior to joining the University of Connecticut staff. According to the UConn Men's Basketball website, "Murray has earned a nationwide reputation as an outstanding evaluator of talent and one of the top recruiters in college basketball. He has been ranked by ESPN as one of the top 10 coaches under 40, similarly been named by The Athletic as one of 40 influential people in college basketball under 40, and recognized by 247Sports as one of the top five recruiters in the nation."

Luke Murray's #4 seeded team whacked Rick Pitino and the #13 seeded Iona Gaels Friday afternoon 87-63 at the MVP Arena in the afternoon session. It is expected that Bill Murray will return to the arena on Sunday to UConn take on #5 seed Saint Mary's, coming off of their 63-51 victory over #12 VCU in the early game of the afternoon. Game times for Sunday have not been released yet.
