DeFazio's Pizza of Troy, NY to Feature in Barstool 'Pizza Fest'

The best pizzerias in the country are being included in a brand-new "pizza fest" event happening this fall, and one of the Capital Region's pizza cornerstones will be represented. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has made a few trips to the Albany area, and while he's been on a pizza review tear in 2023, it was this review in 2021 that truly made waves in the area.

Now, the best pie in the area (in his opinion) will be headed south on I-87 to test its metaphorical metal against the top pizzas in New York, and the United States.

Local Pizza Hotspot to Be Represented at 2023 Barstool 'One Bite Pizza Fest'

The list of pizzerias represented at Barstool Sports' first One Bite Pizza Fest was recently released, and Capital Region foodies were delighted to learn that DeFazio's Pizza in Troy, NY was included in the event. As of today, 36 total pizzerias will be included on the event's menu, an event that will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn.

DeFazio's made an impact on 'El Presidente' when he visited it during the summer of 2021. He enjoyed the pizza that he ordered, but it was the DeFazio's hangover cake that truly knocked his...socks...off.

The pizza at DeFazio's was scored an 8.2 out of 10, putting it in a tie for 82nd in the all-time pizza review rankings. It also places DeFazio's above any of the Capital Region pizzerias that have been reviewed in 2023. Marisa's Place in Guilderland is the "leader in the clubhouse" this year, with a 7.9 out of 10.

The hangover cake, meanwhile, ranked as a 9.4, after catching an unsuspecting Dave Portnoy completely off-guard.

Now, the pizza at DeFazio's will be presented alongside some of the highest-rated pizza slices in the country, hailing from New Haven, New York City, New Jersey and more. Can this Capital Region pizza titan defend the region's honor? We'll find out in September.
