Albany Area Well Represented For Olympic Trials
I have to admit I was never much for Olympic swimming. Michael Phelps changed that. While I still am no Aquaman I am looking forward to seeing the swimming this go round as well, including Phelps who will be participating in his final Olympic games-This according to him.
The Capital Region will have a number of chances to be represented in London as well. No swimmer from the Region has ever participated in the Olympic games.
Jenna Bickel of Guilderland will compete in the 100m backstroke. Frankie Dyer of Loudenville made the cut in the 50,100, and 200 meter free style. Amy Bopp of Clifton Park will be heading to Omaha, Nebraska will compete in the 200m Butterfly. Michael Dugan of Rotterdam, Briana Borgolini of Ballston Spa and katheryn Rowe of Glenville will round out the locals heading to Nebraska for the trial next week as well.
The closest a resident of the capital Region has come to ever qualifying for the Olympic games was former Shaker and Tennessee swimmer John Trembley back in 1972. he missed making the cut in the 100 meter butterfly by .02 seconds.
1 last local resident who make the cut to head to the trials is Niskayuna star Mike DeRocco who excelled in the 100m butterfly, however this young fella will be heading off to Boot Camp for the Navy Seals.
Those who are in the know say none of our local swimmers have a good chance to qualify for the Olympic games which take place in London, England starting July 27th
