Cliff Lee has been lights out all season, and most of his career.  The St. Louis Cardinals found a way to get to Lee and were able to rally past him, while the Cardinals defense was able to hold the Philles to just 1 hit after Chris Carpenter gave up 5 hits and 4 runs early.

The St. Louis Cardinals have not been the most sound team this year, but they were able to make good on what seemed like a bad situation to take a very important home game away from the Philadelphia Phillies to tie their division series at 1-1.  Cardinals beat Philly 5-4 behind 13 big hits and some great work by the bullpen.

The Phillies put some runs on the board early, and really got the St. Louis pitcher Chris Carpenter.  Carpenter gave up 5 hits and 4 runs in just a little over 3 innings.  It looked like it was going to be another thrashing by the power house Phillies.  St. Louis was not ready to give up though.  Despite having Cliff Lee on the mound, the Cardinals were able to hit.

St. Louis began getting to Lee and nailed him for 12 hits and 5 runs.  That brings Lee's post season ERA to 7.50.   The Cardinals were able to keep that lead thanks to some big work from their bullpen, who only allowed one hit after Carpenters disastrous start.

The next meeting between these two in Game 3 of the NLDS will be tomorrow night in St. Louis, where the Cardinals hope to carry the momentum of this win and get a big win in front of the home crowd.
