About to embark on their post-season playoffs, an 8-0 high school football team in Clyde, New York was forced to shut down their season because an alleged assault that involved several of their varsity players.

Fans were enjoying an early fall Saturday of high school football at Thomas R. Proctor High School in Utica, New York, when a shooting broke out just after 4pm, leaving a security guard with a gun shot wound to the head.

Back in June, the Columbia High School captured the New York State high school baseball Class A Championship by defeating Walter Panas High School by a score of 5-1. It was the Blue Devils first state title in baseball since 2004, a good reason for a special celebration.

A close friend of mine calls it, "the pursuit of the little trophy." The definition is basically, "adults pursuing personal/school accolades gained through the athletic performance of kids." This story seems to fit that phrase. Seven senior softball players choose going to their senior prom over the possibility of playing in a state championship game on Saturday. Then the athletic director, who is supposed to be an educational administrator, publicly questioned their decisions?

It's impressive to have three baseball teams and five softball teams trying to make a run at winning State titles.

The high school baseball teams at Hornell and Palmyra-Macedon went viral late last week for a rare dropped-third-strike walk-off victory on the biggest stage.

The best part of the Class AA baseball tournament is it won't end Wednesday. The best of three format gives both teams a fair chance to win.
