Cogswell Goes 3-4 but UVA Falls in Game 1
Shenendehowa graduate Branden Cogswell went 3-4 Monday night, but his Virginia Cavaliers fell to Vanderbilt in Game 1 of the College World Series championship series, 9-8.
Cogswell lined the first pitch of the game for a single and helped pace the 'Hoos to a 2-0 lead. However, Vanderbilt scored nine in the third inning to take a 9-2 lead.
Virginia scored three of its own in the bottom half to make it 9-5. Cogswell ignited another rally in the eighth inning with a single to center and came around to score to make it 9-8, but UVA could not get any closer.
