After a stellar career at RPI, Sean Conroy has found himself in professional baseball, and has found himself a spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

No, Conroy won't be enshrined, but he will also never be forgotten.

The Shenendehowa graduate broke down barriers this season when he became the first openly gay player in professional baseball.

Conroy plays for the Sonoma Stompers of the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs.

Earlier this season, earning the start on "Pride Night," Conroy threw a complete-game shutout in a 7-0 Stompers win.

The scorecard from that game will be on display at the Hall of Fame.

From a baseball perspective, Conroy's story is impressive enough: He wasn't a frequent contributor at Shen, but still made the team at RPI after changing his delivery to become a sidearmer.

He went 21-7 for the Engineers with a 2.07 ERA.

That's impressive, but he will forever be remembered as the player who broke down the barrier for gay players in professional baseball.

Since Conroy, David Denson, a player in the Brewers' system, became the first openly gay player in affiliated ball.
